Welgemoed Pre-Primary School is a double medium independent school. This is where we have been preparing children successfully for Grade 1 for the past 50 years.

The child will be stimulated physically, intellectually, emotionally, socially and spiritually, to reach his/her potential. We are registered at the WCED and follow the CAPS curriculum according to the WCED. (Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement)

Classes in the school

Classroom Structure

At Welgemoed Pre-Primary School all the educators have a class assistant, this is why the educators can give more individual attention to the learners.

The educators focus on helping the learners become independent and responsible human beings. They also assist them to make a positive contribution towards society. At the school the learners have lots of fun, they are creative and are stimulated with educational-, music- and movement games. Boundaries and routines are very important in the Pre-Grade R and Grade R classes. Learners get taught that there are consequences to their actions. All the learners play together during outside play time. No one may play outside without adult supervision.

The learning areas in Grade R are Home Language, Maths and Life Skills. We follow the CAPS curriculum (Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement) compiled by the WCED and cover all the areas to ensure that the Grade R learners will be ready for school at the end of the year to go to Grade 1 the following year.

Life skills include music, movement and drama and allow the learners to develop at their own pace. They become more confident and are socially and emotionally more prepared for “big school”. We encourage them to be more independent, to take care of their own belongings and to pack away/clean up themselves.

Aftercare

Aftercare:

The aftercare at Welgemoed Pre-Primary School is an ideal option for working parents. Children are safe and cared for during the afternoon and/or holiday. Included in the Aftercare Fees is a healthy, cooked lunch, served with fruit juice every day. Sandwiches are served at 15:30.

Hours during the term: 13:00 – 17:30

Hours during the holiday: 07:30 – 17:30

Holiday care for full-time aftercare users are INCLUDED in the aftercare fees during the term. You are requested to please fetch your child no later than 17:30. Please phone the school when you have difficulty to be on time. A fine of R50 for every 15 minutes or part of it is applicable to parents of learners who are fetched later than 17:30. This is immediately payable in cash to the aftercare staff.

No older brothers and sisters can be accommodated at aftercare either during the school term or during school holidays. We have to give preference to our own children for the use of the facility.
